Our Creative Story-Tellers online workshop series has officially begun! On February 26, 2025, we hosted the first module, “Sustainability Education in ECEC and Opportunities of SDGs,” bringing together more than 145 early childhood educators, practitioners, and trainers from across Europe.
This interactive session focused on equipping educators with practical strategies to integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into early childhood education.
🌍 Key Takeaways from the Workshop
Lesson 1: Principles of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)
Led by KMOP, this session introduced participants to the core principles of ESD, emphasising its importance in early childhood education and care (ECEC). Discussions covered:
✔️ What is ESD? Understanding its role in shaping responsible, sustainability-minded citizens from a young age.
✔️ How does ESD connect to ECEC? Exploring how sustainability can be naturally embedded into early learning environments.
✔️ Practical Strategies for Integrating ESD – Educators shared real-world examples and discussed innovative approaches, such as:
- Nature-based learning activities 🌿
- Storytelling with sustainability themes 📖
- Hands-on projects focused on environmental responsibility ♻️
Lesson 2: Understanding the SDGs and their relevance in ECEC
Instructed by SUDWIND, this session provided an overview of the SDGs and their relevance in early childhood education. Key discussions included:
✔️ Why should young children learn about the SDGs? The role of early education in shaping future change-makers.
✔️ Incorporating SDGs into daily learning – Creative ways to introduce global goals through storytelling, play, and real-life activities.
✔️ Resource Sharing & Individual Research – Participants explored new materials and conducted individual research to enhance their understanding.
💬 Interactive Sessions & Experience Sharing
The workshop fostered collaboration and peer learning, with breakout rooms where educators shared experiences, exchanged best practices, and explored real-world examples of SDG integration.
