From October 15 to 17, 2024, the Creative Storytellers project team, consisting of international partners from Deutsche Schule Athen, KMOP, Rokids, the City of Oulu, Casa do Professor, and Südwind, came together to outline the training structure and educational framework for the Creative Storytellers Academy. This collaborative effort focused on developing a robust training program designed to equip educators with the tools, skills, and competencies needed to bring sustainable education into their classrooms through the power of storytelling.
- Empowering Educators for Sustainable Change
The Creative Storytellers Academy will offer educators an innovative approach to teaching sustainability, weaving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into early childhood education. Through this program, teachers will learn to use storytelling as a powerful medium to engage young learners, nurturing their imagination while instilling a foundational understanding of environmental and social responsibility.
- Training Workshops and Resources: Blending Online and On-Site Learning
The Academy will feature a series of interactive training workshops, combining both online and on-site sessions to maximize accessibility and engagement. The workshops will be complemented by a suite of resources tailored to support teachers in seamlessly integrating sustainability themes into their curricula. This blended approach will allow educators to gain hands-on experience and collaborate with peers across Europe, creating a vibrant community dedicated to transformative education.
Engaging Workshop on Storytelling Techniques with Mr. Hugo Dias
A highlight of the partner meeting was an engaging workshop led by Mr. Hugo Dias, an expert in storytelling techniques. Mr. Dias shared invaluable insights on crafting narratives that captivate young minds and emphasized the importance of storytelling as a tool for fostering empathy and understanding. His session provided the project team with practical techniques for creating stories that not only educate but also resonate deeply with young audiences.
Inspiration from Colégio D. Pedro V Preschool in Braga
As part of the Creative Storytellers partner meeting, the team visited the renowned preschool at Colégio D. Pedro V in Braga, Portugal. The school’s focus on curiosity-driven learning through participation and experimentation provided valuable insights for the Creative Storytellers Project. Observing the school’s structure and child-centered routines inspired the team as they continue to develop the Academy’s curriculum, aligning storytelling with sustainable education to nurture young learners’ curiosity and awareness of their environment.
