Module 1 | Lesson 1: Principles of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Part of the CST Creative Story-Tellers Academy – Training for ECEC Professionals This video introduces the core principles of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and its role in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC). You will learn how ESD equips young children with the knowledge, values, and skills needed to engage with real-world sustainability challenges. What you’ll learn: The definition and purpose of ESD in the context of ECEC Key ESD principles: interdependence, critical thinking, participation, transformation Why early childhood is a crucial phase for building sustainability competencies How ESD connects with children’s natural curiosity, creativity, and agency This is the first lesson in Module 1: Sustainability Education in ECEC and Opportunities of SDGs, which sets the foundation for understanding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in early learning settings. Designed for preschool educators, kindergarten staff, teacher trainers, and curriculum developers who want to bring sustainability to life through storytelling and play. Part of the Erasmus+ funded Creative Story-Tellers (CST) project.

Module 1 | Lesson 2a: Understanding the SDGs and Their Relevance in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Part of the CST Creative Story-Tellers Academy – Training for ECEC Professionals In this session, we explore the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and why they matter in early childhood education. You’ll discover how these global goals—often seen as abstract or adult-focused—can be meaningfully translated into age-appropriate learning experiences. What you’ll learn: What the SDGs are and how they are interconnected Why the early years are critical for nurturing values, attitudes, and behaviors for sustainable living How to link SDG themes (like peace, planet, people, and partnership) to everyday activities in kindergartens and preschools Practical examples of SDG-related topics that resonate with children aged 3–6 This lesson helps ECEC educators, trainers, and curriculum designers build confidence in integrating global sustainability challenges into child-centered, creative pedagogy. Part of the Erasmus+ funded Creative Story-Tellers (CST) project that empowers young learners through storytelling and sustainability.
